Overview

December 8, 2017

To Our Partners, Patrons, Families, and Long-time SERC Supporters,

Since 1969, SERC has supported Connecticut's educators, families, and communities by providing resources, technical assistance, professional learning opportunities, and a specialized Library. Throughout our 48-plus years of service on behalf of all children, especially children with disabilities, children of color, and English learners, we have seen our state navigate many fiscal challenges. SERC has shared the impact of these challenges alongside our partners and stakeholders. Despite many periods of tight fiscal restraints, SERC continued to minimize the impact of budget shortfalls without service interruption to our partners and stakeholders.

This year, our state is facing one of the most challenging fiscal years yet, and despite the hard work of our elected officials to alleviate the state's budgetary gap, it has impacted SERC at a level never before experienced. As a result, and to ease the agency's financial burden, SERC will implement a series of administrative furlough days. Therefore, SERC's administrative and programmatic services will be interrupted on the following dates:

  • Tuesday-Thursday, December 26, 27, and 28, 2017

And the following Mondays in 2018:

  • January 8 and 29
  • March 5 and 12
  • April 2, 9, and 30

Under the guidelines of the furlough, all SERC operations must be officially closed on those days, and SERC staff will be unavailable. Our services will resume on all other business days, when SERC will operate under normal business hours.

We apologize for any inconvenience this decision may cause. Your understanding is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your enduring support as we continue to promote equity, excellence, and education on behalf of our children and families.

Respectfully,
Ingrid M. Canady
Executive Director
