Parents and family members are welcome to apply to activities designed for educators, and individuals may apply to activities designed for teams. Students from Connecticut’s colleges and universities may also apply.

Please note that priority consideration will be given to personnel from urban and priority districts. Also, regional distribution and applicants from the same school will be given consideration.

Confirmation of Participation:

Each applicant will receive written confirmation with directions shortly after the closing date specified in the activity announcement. It is important to note that submission of an application form alone does not guarantee enrollment in an activity. If you do not receive confirmation or your ability to participate in the activity should change, please contact SERC staff (see activity announcement) as soon as possible. In addition, prior approval should be obtained from SERC staff for a colleague to serve as a substitute for a preregistered applicant who can no longer participate.

Registration Fees and Fee Waivers:

Some activities require a registration fee to defray costs (see activity announcement). Make checks/ purchase orders payable to: Rensselaer at Hartford. For activities taking place prior to the first week of November, payment must accompany the application form. For activities occurring thereafter, payment must be remitted prior to the activity upon receipt of written notice confirming participation to ensure enrollment.

Registered participants who, without notice, fail to attend an activity are responsible for payment of any outstanding registration fee.

Refunds cannot be given after one week prior to the date of an activity. Consideration may be given to purchase orders if they are processed promptly upon confirmation of participation and payment is received prior to the activity.

Limited funds are available, if necessary, to urban and priority districts, public charter schools, and families to waive the registration fee required by some activities. To inquire about obtaining a fee waiver for a particular activity, please contact SERC staff (see activity announcement) prior to submitting an application form.

Stipend for Substitute Coverage:

For some activities, limited funds are available to participants from urban and priority districts for reimbursement of the cost of substitute coverage. Please contact SERC staff (see activity announcement) regarding availability of substitute coverage stipends for a particular activity. As applicable, a Substitute Coverage Stipend Form may be obtained, upon request, at the registration table on the day of the activity. This form must be completed by the participant, signed by an administrator, and returned to SERC within thirty (30) days of the activity.

Cancellation of an Activity:

SERC reserves the right to cancel an activity. If cancellation is necessary for administrative reasons, applicants confirmed for participation will receive written notice at least one week prior to the activity, and if applicable, the registration fee will be returned/refunded.

In the case of inclement weather, participants should listen/watch for SERC cancellation announcements over radio station WTIC AM 1080 and TV station WFSB Channel 3. An Inclement Weather Sheet is enclosed with each activity confirmation. An inclement weather voicemail update is available by calling extension 267 at SERC, (860) 632-1485, between 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.
