SERC Statement Following Recent Hurricanes

SERC continues to be concerned with the ongoing crisis in Puerto Rico and other regions following the devastation wrought by Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Not only do United States citizens in Maria’s path still lack electricity, running water, and adequate provisions, but schools across Puerto Rico and other regions may be closed for weeks or months, according to media reports. Our thoughts are with the victims in Florida and the Caribbean and with schools throughout the mainland U.S. that may be serving new students displaced by the storms.

SERC Statement Following Las Vegas Shooting

SERC is heartbroken about the tragedy in Las Vegas that took dozens of lives and injured hundreds. We are also humbled by the bravery of the first responders, ordinary citizens, and others whose aid demonstrated the best of humanity in the most horrific of circumstances. Here in Connecticut, where we work closely with schools and districts across the state, we know too well the pain of mass shootings. We pray for a future for United States communities that is free of the scourge of gun violence.
